Vawdon Cup

Divisions of play:

  • Womens Opens  (16 years +)
  • Mens Opens  (16 years +)
  • Youth league Girls (13-16 years)
  • Youth league boys (13-16 years)
  • Mixed Opens   (16 years +)
  • All Abilities (All ages, athletes living with a disability)

Timeline:

Vawdon Cup is a weekly competition conducted throughout the Sydney Metropolitan area catering to Open and Youth divisions. The 2024 competition will commence on Friday October 12th and is currently scheduled to finish on Sunday November 7th.

Players who are interested in playing Vawdon Cup are required to fill out an expression of interest form. Pre-season begins in August with womens & mens programs training twice a week and youth teams training once a week.

Selection:

  • Programs will be broken into divisional squads: eg.  Womens 1, Womens 2, Mens 1, Mens 2, Youth 1, Youth 2 etc.
  • Round to Round selection based on attendance, skill, availability and attitude.(Max 14 players per team per game)

Senior State Cup

Divisions of play:

  • Womens Opens  (16 years +)
  • Mens Opens   (16 years +)
  • Under 20’s Boys (14 years +)
  • Under 20’s Girls (14 years +)
  • Mixed Opens   (16 years +)
  • All Abilities (All ages, athletes living with a disability)
  • Senior divisions (Mens/ womens): 27’s/30’s/35’s/40’s/50’s. 

Timeline: 

NSW Touch Football’s Senior State Cup will be held from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th of December 2024 in Port Macquarie. (Play Friday – Sunday, this will require players to travel up to Port Macquarie some time Thursday).

Teams are to begin preparation in October. Players wishing to trial will be required to fill out an expression of interest form. Men’s and Women’s players wishing to play Senior State Cup are encouraged to play Vawdon Cup as that competition is used to develop team cohesion. 

Selection:

  • Programs broken into divisional squads; eg/ Womens 1, Womens 2, Mens 1, Mens 2. 
  • Tournament selection 14 players per team + up to 3 staff. 

Eligibility:

  • Players need to be registered participants of Norths Touch social competitions (played at Artarmon Reserve)
  • Players need to be available for the full Senior State Cup weekend. 
  • Players need to adhere to club deadlines/ guidelines.

Junior State Cup

Divisions of play: 

  • U10 boys/ girls
  • U12 boys/ girls
  • U14 boys/girls 
  • U16 boys/girls 
  • U18 boys/ girls

Timeline: 

Junior representative players take part in the NSW Junior State Cup held annually in February.

Junior State Cup 2025: Friday 20th – Sunday 23rd of February 2025 in Dubbo. 

Trials for Norths selection take place in September 2024. Players wishing to trial will be required to fill out an expression of interest form. For trials, the players age group is relevant to the age they are turning NEXT YEAR (2025 JSC). Final teams will only be fielded with adequate numbers of interest from players at a level required to participate at a representative tournament. 

Upon successful selection players will be required to train once a week throughout September to December. From the summer holidays,  teams will train twice weekly including a number of Gala days to bolster their preparation for Junior State Cup.

Selection:

  • Open trials across all age groups
  • Selection into training squads
  • From training squads final Tournament selection:

Under 10’s: 12 player

Under 12/14/16/18: 14 players

  • Shadow/ development players may be named.

All Abilities

The Bears Touch Footy Family continue to welcome all members of the community.  The All Abilities Touch Football team is a completely inclusive program that provides opportunities for people of all ages with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.  We invite these individuals to learn Touch Football skills as well as play the sport alongside their family members, carers, friends, elite footy players and the wider community.

This program also offers pathways for representative players in the Touch Football’s Inclusive Division competitions at Vawdon Cup, State Cup & National Touch lLeague.

The training details are as follows:

  • 5-6pm Wednesdays 
  • Location: Artarmon Reserve

Development Opportunities and Pathways

Cubs Academy:

Norths touch offer ‘‘Cubs Academy”, a development program designed for all young keen Touch Footy players in the Norths area. The program is aimed at players turning 7 this year up through to 13 year olds, who aspire to trial for future representative teams within our Club. The program will help players improve core skills and game structure. The program will be delivered on a weekly basis during school Term 2 on Sundays with extra days offered throughout the school holidays.

Junior State Cup Pathway:

  • Sydney Scorpions (Junior Regionals)
  • NSW Touch Football ‘Emerging Blues program
  • State Merit teams

VC/ Senior State Cup Pathway:

  • Sydney Scorpions (National Touch League)
  • State of Origin
  • Australian Emus

 

 

Coaching Opportunities

All coaches who wish to join the Norths staff will be required to have a level 1 (foundation) Touch Football Coach Accreditation. The club supports all coaches who are interested in joining our program to sit this course. 

Coaching EOI’s will be circulated ahead of each tournament. 

Coaches have the opportunity to develop under program leading coaches. 

Recognition and Awards

Each year in late March following the closure of our Representative season, the club joins together to celebrate the achievements of the season. The awards night recognises each team’s ‘Best and Fairest’, ‘Coaches Award’ and ‘Players Player’. 

There is also recognition for our Club perpetual awards:

  • Referee of the Year
  • Club Person of the Year
  • Junior Player of the Year
  • Senior Player of the Year
  • Junior Coach of the Year
  • Senior Coach of the Year

Norths also have the opportunity to celebrate the club’s achievements annually at New South Wales Touch Football Awards.

This event takes place annually in October.
