U8Mixed & U10 rule modification @ Norths

There is no scoring in U8s (i.e. there will be a draw, but no competition ladder)

U10s will have a draw and a competition ladder

U8s AND U10s are played on a half-size touch football field

For U8 Mixed

  • Coaches are allowed on the field BUT must remain at least 5 metres behind their team.
  • Vocals by coaches must be positive, encouraging and NOT louder than the Junior Referee.

For U10

  • Coaches are allowed on the field UNTIL Round 4 only.  Then they must coach from the sideline.
  • Vocals by coaches must be positive, encouraging and NOT louder than the Junior Referee.

We request that coaches do not talk to the referees.

We have a Zero Tolerance to the abuse of referees!

We request coaches maintain positive comments on all aspects of the game.  Negative comments against the referees from the sideline that can be heard by the players, often transfer onto the field.

For U8 Mixed

The attacking team will maintain possession of the ball for a full set of SIX (6) touches.

A drop ball, forward pass, late pass, over the mark, obstruction, dummy half being caught with the ball are to be counted as a touch.

However, we will endeavour to encourage the players to return to where they were touched to play the ball.

for U10 – Normal playing rules apply.

For U8 Mixed & U10

The defending team cannot move up until the first receiver has caught the ball AND/or the dummy half runs with the ball.

On the tryline, teams must move forward from the line and make an effort to touch the attacking team (i.e. they cannot stand stationary on the try line and watch or defend the line)

We will play 5m for players to get onside, instead of 7m.

Norths runs the competition with Junior Referees and everyone is learning.  The referees will also make their decisions on what they have seen.

For minor infringements (50/50 calls, the referee may call “play on”, for example, if the ball is passed slightly forward, late or if the ball is played just over the mark.

If interested in refereeing at our Junior competition, please head to the Refs tab and submit your interest.

For U8 Mixed

No penalties are to be awarded.

Per above, usual penalties for late pass, forward pass, off the mark, obstruction, no touch will be counted as a touch.

Instances including kicking the ball, throwing the ball away, hard touches etc, will result in a change of poassession (defending team) or a restart of the set of six (attacking team).

For U10 – Normal playing touch rules apply.

For U8 Mixed

Players will be afforded a FULL set of SIX (6) touches whilst they learn the game.

We would like the players to learn and have fun doing so.

For U10 – Normal playing rules apply.
